Is it possible for an external monitor to continue to display the last image given to it, even when the computer crashes?

Edit: Note - the monitors receive their power separate from the computer, so the monitors still have power but the computer feeding it the image has crashed and appears to be powered down. The image still appears on the monitor.

As long as the computer is still powered on, yes. Once you unplug, force shut down or otherwise lose power, sure, the display can be whatever you were doing when it crashed.

If the computer is powered off and youre still seeing picture, send me a pic, Id like to see that...

Sounds like the start of a horror movie. Don't answer any phone calls from inside your own house.

Some LCD panels (read flat screen monitors and TVs) will retain a faint ‘ghost’ image for a few seconds if the power is yanked out, but otherwise, I’ve never heard of that happening.

The computer is powered down, but the monitor is still powered.

It still has power, it’s the computer that was feeding it the image that has crashed.

Unless you have a unique, monitor, no. Monitors don’t typically have a cache. Thee would be no where to store the image.

I do not understand what is going on then. Is it possible that some of the computer powered itself off but still left the graphical processor on?
